scalzi's monday photo shoot

John Scalzi's  Monday Photo Shoot: Such Great Heights

Show off a picture taken from a height. "A height" you can define as "Higher than I could shoot a picture by holding the camera over my head." Pictures from planes, from the observation decks of skyscrapers, from the roof of your house (although I don't want to put yourself in physical danger to take a picture) or wherever is up there in the air.

i love heights!!!  welll......i love heights as long as i have that false security of railing, or glass wall, etc. in front of me.  lol  here are mine....taken from a skyscraper....hot air balloon....mountain top....and a tower.

weekend assignment #151

Picture from Hometown

Weekend Assignment #151: Is Valentine's Day a genuinely romantic day? Or just a big commercial money pit into which romantic people fall? Go on, share how you really feel about the day -- whether you enjoy it, or feel like it's forced on you by greeting card companies, or fall somewhere in between those two poles.

Picture from Hometown

when you love someone, you don't need a special day to tell them...you should tell them often.  but, its fun to have a special day to do special things in celebration.  i know that most of our holidays have become  commercialized, but i refuse to look at them in that light.  i choose to keep the holidays special for the reason we celebrate them!  and to me....valentine's day is a romantic day.  :)

although the focus is that special someone in our lives....for me it has always included my children...and now my grandchildren.  :)

happy valentine's day everyone.

who inspires me?

greg asks, 'Who inspires you?'  well...as a kid i loved looking at the photos in 'national geographic' and of course, ansel adams.  then this past summer, i started journaling and discovered photo journals.  i was in awe of some of the pictures i was seeing.  but....nature, landscapes, and wildlife have always motivated me to attempt to capture what i saw and felt when looking at a particular place or object....

our first snow

we got our first snow last night. as you can see it was only about an inch....mixed with some ice.  just enough to make the roads hazardous.  my route to work is mainly lil 2 lane country roads. as i don't have a good track record for driving in these conditions,  i waited a couple of hours before making that drive.   i snapped most of these enroute.  the skies were pretty drab...... but i did enjoy the scenery.  :)
